We now have a slide program about the
wintering with our own Jonathan III in northwest
Spitsbergen (Svalbard). This expedition took place from June 2002 till October 2003. The little bay where we stayed was Nilspollen at 79º12’North. The closest settlement was 40 kilometers away but unreachable due to the bad ice and snow conditions of that year.
Jonathan was frozen into 1,2 meters of solid ice and did not move for many months. Just the two of us and our two Greenlandic Polar dogs in one and the same place for 10 month. All the time we had the whole area to ourselves. In the good times when the full moon broke the darkness of the polarnight and the bad times with stormy weather and a wind-chill factor of minus 53 ºC It’s a story about solitude, three months of polarnight, the worries at difficult moments, and being totally on your own.

The story will be told live with the use of a beamer for the many slides. We take all the
necessary equipment with us. The costs of the program are € 350,00 excluding travel expenses.
